Vol.1-05: 2005 Flying Season Just Around the Corner

The days are getting longer and the sun seems to shine more brightly and just a bit warmer lately. All of this is a very early harbinger of Spring and the start of the new kiting season for 2005.

Dates for NWKA Events for 2005:
The dates for the regular monthly kite flying events of the Niagara Windriders are found below and on our web site:
All of these events are held at Lakeview Park in Port Colborne, ON. Flying usually begins around noon and lasts until 4:30 p.m. Since we have a permit for the use of the park you are welcome to come earlier if you wish.

Annual NWKA Meeting and Workshop:
To kick of the new season, the Directors will soon meet to plan a date, business agenda, and kite building workshop for our annual general meeting. The location has not been finalized yet either. All of the details will be communicated to you by email and in this Newsletter once the Directors complete their plans later in February.

Tentatively, a date of Sunday, April 2nd is being considered for the meeting/workshop. However, final details will be sent out soon.

INCO to Sponsor 13th Annual Canal Days Kite Festival:
We have already secured a corporate sponsor for the upcoming 13th Annual Canal Days Kite Festival. The Kite Festival, planned and carried out by NWKA members, is growing to be one of the highlights of the City-wide Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival.
This year, INCO selected our kite festival as the event they wish to present as a corporation. The INCO donation to the city festival is $15,000.00. Our budget will be increased this year and the major balance of the funds will go to the overall festival. However, the funding will ensure that we can do some very special things to make this year's event "Lucky 13"!

NWKA Web Site Updated:
Several updates have been made to the NWKA web site to present pertinent information for 2005. The following sections have been updated:
  • Main/home page
  • Events page (our events, those of other clubs and some major festivals)
  • Canal Days page (2005 overview and photos of 2004 at the bottom)
  • Links page.
Please visit the NWKA site to see all the changes.
